Hello fellow knitters and crocheters.
We’re all beginning to settle in to the new space quite nicely and finding a place for everything. The volunteers at the shop are all waiting for you to drop by and see our new space and latest goodies we’ve received.
Woolith Fair is Happening Now!
Come on down to the shop with your passport for Woolith Fair 2018!
We have a special sale on – 25% off all yarns! The PK or FVKG (Fraser Valley Knitters Guild) discount does not apply to sale yarns, but does apply to needles and accessories, which are not on sale.
Focus on Yarn
I’ve been working with one of our new yarns and if you follow us on Instagram (@onceuponasheepyarn) you’ll see what I mean. I decided to try out the new yarn we got in this spring from Katia’s Concept line – Cotton Cashmere. It has 90% Cotton and 10% Cashmere – just enough to soften the yarn a little bit more.
I’ve been using 3.25mm needles with it for a 26 st tension, and I made a lovely little baby teddy hat for the shop as a sample. You can see that there was still so much yarn left when I finished the hat. What could I make with it? I decided on a cute little pair of booties from one of the books in my collection. (Sorry for the different colour – Instagram filters)
However, even after that I still have yarn left! So I’m going to make up a pair of tiny mittens to go with the hat and booties. I’ll likely have yarn left over still after that.
So kudos to Katia for a great yarn that’s lovely to work with and seems to last forever! I knit this for the shop but I think I’m going to buy some of the cream or tan colour and make a baby set for a future grand baby.
New Bags!
We’re so excited to tell you about our new bags! I was looking for a place to source new bags for the shop and I stumbled upon a local company in Richmond that uses recycled plastic to make their bags. Econobags are made from recycled plastic sourced from a recycling company in Burnaby. We used a local artist, Derek Chiu, to design the lettering for us and we picked them up in time for Woolith Fair.
We’re quite pleased with how they turned out. I was surprised to find out they mostly ship to the states and don’t have Canadian customers! Let’s try to change that and spread the word about these great bags doing our bit for the planet!
Fall Ordering Time…
It’s almost time to get our orders for the fall together. We’ll be meeting with distributors soon and choosing yarns and colours – always so much fun! We’re looking at some local yarn companies and indie dyers as well and hoping to bring yarns to the shop you’re going to love. If there’s a yarn you’d like to see us carry, let us know by dropping us an note at onceuponasheep@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you.
Happy knitting & crocheting!
